Delivers 60,000-Ton Insulated Steel Silo Project in Asia, Bolstering Regional Food Security

25-12-2025

SHENYANG, China – Liaoning Qiushi Steel Silo Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd. (Liaoning Qiushi), a global leader in bulk grain storage solutions, has successfully completed the delivery and commissioning of a large-scale insulated steel silo project in Southeast Asia. The project, consisting of 6 units of 10,000-ton insulated steel silos with a total storage capacity of 60,000 tons, is tailored to address the region’s unique challenges of high-temperature and high-humidity climates, providing a reliable long-term storage solution for local grain reserves and agribusinesses.

Asia, home to more than half of the world’s population, faces immense pressure to ensure food security. Many countries in the region rely heavily on seasonal grain harvests, but the lack of high-quality storage facilities often leads to post-harvest loss rates exceeding 15% – a critical issue that hinders efforts to stabilize food supplies. The high-temperature and high-humidity conditions in Southeast Asia further exacerbate the problem, as they easily cause grain mold, insect infestation, and nutrient loss.

“The demand for efficient, climate-adapted storage solutions is urgent in Asia,” said Mr. Chen Guang, Regional Director of Liaoning Qiushi Asia Pacific. “Our 10,000-ton insulated steel silos are designed to tackle these pain points head-on, helping to reduce grain loss and secure food supplies for local communities.”

The 6 units of 10,000-ton insulated steel silos are equipped with advanced thermal insulation and moisture-proof technologies, customized to adapt to the subtropical climate of Southeast Asia. Key technical highlights include:

1. High-Efficiency Composite Insulation System

Each steel silo adopts a three-layer composite insulation structure – the outer layer is made of high-strength galvanized steel with a 300g/m² zinc coating for corrosion resistance; the middle layer is filled with 150mm-thick high-density polyurethane insulation material, which has excellent thermal insulation performance (thermal conductivity coefficient ≤0.024 W/(m·K)); the inner layer is coated with food-grade anti-mold paint. This system ensures that the internal temperature of the silo remains 8-12℃ lower than the external temperature, effectively inhibiting grain respiration and mold growth even in the region’s 35-40℃ summer heat.

2. Ultra-High Airtightness & Moisture Control:

Utilizing Liaoning Qiushi’s patented spiral edge-biting technology, the steel silos achieve 99.7% airtightness, preventing external humid air from entering. The steel silos are also equipped with an intelligent dehumidification system that automatically adjusts the internal humidity to below 65% – the optimal range for grain storage. This dual protection mechanism significantly reduces grain moisture content fluctuations, ensuring the quality and edibility of stored grain for up to 2 years.

3. Intelligent Remote Monitoring Platform:

The project is fully integrated with Liaoning Qiushi’s IoT-based smart monitoring system. Sensors installed inside each steel silo real-time track temperature, humidity, grain moisture, and insect activity, transmitting data to a cloud-based platform. Local management personnel can remotely monitor the storage status via mobile phones or computers, and the system automatically triggers alarms and activates dehumidification, ventilation, or fumigation equipment when abnormal conditions are detected. This reduces manual management workload by 70% and ensures timely response to potential risks.

The project, which started construction in the first quarter of this year, overcame challenges such as tight schedules and complex on-site conditions. Liaoning Qiushi adopted a prefabricated production model, completing 95% of the steel silo components in its Chinese factories and transporting them to the site for assembly. This not only ensured construction quality but also shortened the on-site construction period by 50% compared to traditional methods, allowing the project to be put into use ahead of the local main grain harvest season.

A representative of the local grain reserve authority commented: “The completion of this 60,000-ton insulated steel silo project is a milestone for our regional food security. Previously, we struggled to store large quantities of grain for long periods due to the harsh climate, resulting in significant losses. With these new insulated steel silos, we can now store enough grain to meet the emergency needs of 500,000 people for 6 months. The intelligent monitoring system also makes management much easier and more efficient.”

The project is expected to bring significant economic and social benefits. It will reduce local grain storage loss from 15% to 1.2%, saving about 8,280 tons of grain annually. This not only reduces economic losses for agribusinesses but also strengthens the region’s food reserve capacity, helping to stabilize grain prices and cope with natural disasters or supply chain disruptions. In addition, the project has created more than 100 local construction and operation jobs, driving local economic development.

“This project demonstrates Liaoning Qiushi’s strength in providing customized storage solutions for diverse Asian climates,” said Mr. Liu Jia, CEO of Liaoning Qiushi. “Asia is a key market for us, and we will continue to invest in R&D to develop more climate-adapted, intelligent storage solutions. We are committed to supporting food security and agricultural development in Asian countries through our professional technology and reliable steel silo.”
