Prefabricated Insulated Steel Silo Project for Thai Rice Giant

BANGKOK, Thailand – Liaoning Qiushi Silo Equipment Engineering Co., Ltd., a global leader in bulk storage solutions, has successfully commissioned a landmark prefabricated insulated steel silo project for Thai Agri-Trade Co., Ltd., one of Southeast Asia’s largest rice exporters. The project, featuring 24 units of 3,000-ton rice silos and 10 units of 1,000-ton rice silos with a total capacity of 82,000 tons, marks a new benchmark for efficient, high-quality rice storage in the region, leveraging the unique advantages of prefabricated insulated steel silo technology.

Thailand, the world’s second-largest rice exporter, faces persistent challenges in rice storage: high humidity during the monsoon season, temperature fluctuations that affect grain quality, and the need for rapid storage expansion to accommodate harvest peaks. Traditional concrete silos, once the mainstream choice, often fall short with long construction cycles, poor thermal insulation, and high maintenance costs—issues that the prefabricated insulated steel silos from Liaoning Qiushi have effectively addressed.

“Rice quality directly determines our export competitiveness,” said Mr. Somsak Thongprasert, CEO of Thai Agri-Trade. “After evaluating multiple storage solutions, we chose Liaoning Qiushi’s prefabricated insulated steel silos for their unmatched adaptability to Thailand’s climate and efficient construction schedule. The project was completed in just 90 days—60% faster than concrete silos of the same scale—allowing us to fully prepare for the upcoming harvest season.”

The core advantage of these prefabricated insulated steel silos lies in their integrated design tailored for rice storage. Each silo adopts a double-layer insulation structure: the outer layer uses high-strength galvanized steel (275g/m² zinc coating) for corrosion resistance against coastal humidity, while the inner layer is filled with 100mm-thick rock wool insulation material, ensuring the internal temperature remains stable between 18-22℃—the optimal range for preserving rice freshness and reducing broken grain rates.

Unlike traditional silos, the prefabricated components of the silos are precision-manufactured in Liaoning Qiushi’s Chinese factories and assembled on-site with bolted connections, eliminating the need for on-site welding and concrete pouring. This not only ensures consistent quality but also minimizes construction waste, aligning with Thai Agri-Trade’s sustainability goals. “The prefabricated model significantly reduced on-site labor and environmental impact,” noted Ms. Supattra Wongsuwan, the project’s environmental supervisor. “It’s a win-win for efficiency and sustainability.”

To meet the strict food safety standards for exported rice, the silos are equipped with food-grade inner coatings that prevent chemical reactions with rice, while the airtightness (reaching 99.5% leakage-proof) ensures effective fumigation to control pests without residue. Integrated IoT sensors monitor temperature, humidity, and rice moisture in real-time, transmitting data to a cloud platform for remote management—reducing manual inspection workload by 70%.

The 82,000-ton project is expected to reduce Thai Agri-Trade’s rice storage loss from 8% to 1.2%, saving approximately 6,560 tons of rice annually—equivalent to the food supply for 164,000 people for one year. It also enhances the company’s export capacity by enabling year-round stable storage, supporting Thailand’s goal of increasing rice export value by 15% in 2025.

“This project demonstrates how prefabricated insulated steel silos can transform agricultural storage in tropical and subtropical regions,” said Mr. Li Wei, international business director of Liaoning Qiushi. “We combine localized design with global manufacturing standards to deliver solutions that address specific regional challenges. As a trusted partner for bulk storage, we look forward to supporting more agricultural enterprises in Southeast Asia and beyond.”
